Wanted: Small Group Meetings

At the January 2009 meeting, a number of members expressed the wish to start up some small groups to play evenings or weekends.

There are lots of reasons for encouraging small groups: e.g., camaraderie, ear training, and developing independence and sight-reading skills. Also, since our SEM is gaining a reputation as a source of affordable entertainment and dissemination of high culture in the Baltimore area, it would help a lot in preparing for these concerts if our fearless leader could hand out the music to the small groups to practice ahead of time.

One more possible use for small groups comes to mind. I belong to the Washington Recorder Society, and once a month, one of their subgroups opens the meeting with a short concert of music they have been working on. Our groups could do something similar, not a whole concert, but perhaps one or two pieces that a consort likes well enough to want to study and polish. (I am told by several "veterans" that our SEM used to do this regularly at one time.)

That said, here are the areas where the most people live who have indicated a desire for small group meetings along with the times they listed as most convenient:

If you want to join any of these (potential or actual) gatherings or just need further info, contact me at maryellis@harpfolk.com.
